Michelangelo International Wine Awards
October 2009
Golden Kaan once again proved its high quality in a renowned wine competition. At South Africa’s Michelangelo International Wine Awards a silver medal has been assigned to the Private Collection Chardonnay 2008.
This Chardonnay has already received many international medals and accolades for its outstanding quality. It embodies ripe fruit and oak flavours which are integrating well with complex citrus, pear, peach and woody flavours that add depth and dimension.
The Michelangelo International Wine Awards (MIWA) is widely regarded as one of the wine competitions with the most credibility in South Africa. Unlike other South African competitions, the Michelangelo International Wine Awards is judged by a panel consisting of international judges plus only one local judge.
The 2009 competition saw a record number of 1502 entries from 263 South African wine producers. The entries collected a total of 524 medals. In accordance with the rules of the Michelangelo International Wine Awards, a maximum of 30% of the entries were awarded a medal which adds to the prestige of a wine bearing a Michelangelo medal.
