Two Silver Medals for Golden Kaan
October 2008
Golden Kaan once again proved its high quality in a renowned international wine competition: At Germany’s largest and most important wine contest MUNDUSvini, the 2006 Winemaker’s Reserve Chardonnay and the 2004 Reserve Selection Cabernet Sauvignon were both honoured with a silver medal.
The medalled Chardonnay of Golden Kaan’s top range embodies ripe fruit and oak flavours which are integrating very well with complex citrus, pear, peach and woody flavours. The wine was aged in new French oak barrels for 9 months, thus gaining depth and dimension.
The ruby red and full-bodied Cabernet Sauvignon impressed the panel experts with upfront cherry and finely imbedded tannins. All Golden Kaan wines were carefully selected according to severe quality criteria before treated by chief winemaker Sterik de Wet.
5,343 wines and sparkling wines from 41 different countries applied for the different accolades at the MUNDUSvini challenge in 2008. The tasting was organized according to the strict rules of the OIV (Organisation Internationale de la Vigne et du Vin) and the Union Internationale des Oenologues (U.I.O.E., Paris). According to MUNDUSvini officials, this wine contest is the largest officially approved wine competition worldwide.
